Designed by Justino de Morais, this apartment reflects informality, irregularity, the use of 45º angles, reducing circulation as much as possible, the importance of the kitchen open to the living room and its extension to the outside. The balcony allows you to enjoy views of the sea and the Sintra mountains in a living space sheltered by glass windows predominantly facing South and West (East on the side of the bedrooms). The bathroom separates the social area from the bedroom area, in which the silence and tranquility contrast with the vivacity of the sea on the living room side. The original finishes were preserved, such as the wood in the kitchen furniture. The furniture was designed for the minimalist and “slow living” style of those who live in a beach town. Aesthetically and in terms of internal organization, this project reflects the influence of Nordic architecture, such as that of Alvar Aalto, and Frank Lloyd Wright's “organicism”, characterized as a small nucleus of collective meeting, arranged diagonally and forming the south a small square consisting of commercial establishments on the ground floor and a convenient parking lot. Life is done on foot, relying on the comfort of local commerce and the friendliness of the people who have long been accustomed to the poetry of living among the fog of the mountains and sunsets over the ocean. The painter José Malhoa portrayed local bathing life in his painting Praia das Maçãs, painted in oil on wood in 1918. Praia das Maçãs is lined with restaurants, has a saltwater pool, sports facilities and a children's playground. It is, by vocation, the beach for the inhabitants of Sintra and Colares, places to which it is connected by road and the Sintra tram.This apartment is partially furnished and makes a wonderful beach house for holidays and/or to monetize through tourist accommodation.
